Paraguayan Man Sentenced to Prison for Threatening Police in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, December 17 (NA) – A Paraguayan national was sentenced to four years in prison for threatening a group of police officers with a firearm in Villa 31, located in the Retiro neighborhood of Buenos Aires. Sources from the Public Prosecutor's Office of the City of Buenos Aires informed the Argentine News Agency that the incident occurred when officers approached the assailant, who brandished a pistol and pulled the trigger four times, but the bullets did not discharge. After authorities ordered him to halt, the accused attempted to flee but was apprehended. The Justice ordered house arrest, although he escaped and Interpol issued an international arrest warrant. The uniformed officers captured the fugitive after a year, and investigators confirmed that the 9-millimeter caliber weapon had an inscription from the Buenos Aires Provincial Police. Through a abbreviated trial, the PCyF 11 prosecution agreed to a four-year prison sentence to be served effectively for the crimes of carrying a firearm, threats, and disobedience to authority, while deportation from the national territory was ordered once the sentence is served.
